Catherine L. Janvier Scholarship

Catherine L. Janvier was an active member of Soroptimist International of Cumberland County, Inc. for 37 years. Catherine's desire was to become a physician. While her family saw to it that Catherine received a business education at Pearce Business School in Philadelphia, she was unable to fulfill her dream of entering the medical field. Catherine worked at the P.J. Ritter Company in the finance department for many years and, upon Ritter's closing, held the position of Financial Vice-President of Cowan Printing. At her death, Catherine bequeathed a sum of money to the club to establish a scholarship to be awarded to a female student from Bridgeton High School.
To apply for this scholarship, a female student from Bridgeton High School must have the desire to further her education and study with the goal and objective of eventually becoming a physician.

Soroptimist International of Cumberland County, Inc. Merit Award

This award of merit recognizes young people for their contributions to home, school and community.
To apply for this award, students must fill out an application detailing their involvement in home, school and community affairs.

Soroptimist International of the Americas Women's Opportunity Award

Soroptimist International of the Americas established the Women's Opportunity Award under the name, Training Awards Program or TAP, in 1972. The purpose of this award is to aid mature women who are the head of their household, in upgrading their employment status by obtaining further skills and training. This program fulfills one of our Soroptimist objectives- "to strive for human rights for all people, and, in particular, to advance the status of women."


To apply for this award, a woman head-of-household must complete an application detailing her plans to improve her employment status by furthering her skills through education and training.

Violet Richardson Award

The Violet Richardson Award honors young girls between the ages of 14 & 17 who are involved in volunteer activities. The award recognizes young women who make the community and the world a better place through volunteer efforts such as fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions that benefit women and children are particularly valued. The application of the recipient of our club's award will be forwarded to the regional level, where a $1,000. Violet Richardson awardee will be selected. At that level, an additional $1,000. will be contributed to her volunteer organization."


To apply for this award, a girl between the ages of 14 & 17 must complete an application detailing her volunteer work for the community.
