Soroptimist means “best for women” and that’s what we strive to be—an organization of women at their best helping other women to be their best. As a volunteer organization of business and professional women we feel uniquely qualified to help women and girls live their dreams.

Throughout history and still to this day, women throughout the world face obstacles solely because of their gender. They disproportionately suffer from poverty and discrimination. It’s for this reason that Soroptimist, an organization of and by women, chooses to focus on the special challenges facing women and girls.

In order to accomplish this goal, the organization administers several international programs. The organization’s major project is the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards, which assist women by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and job prospects.

Students!  We are accepting applications for the following awards:

Women’s Opportunity Award — deadline December 1, 2013  download application

The Women’s Opportunity Awards program assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

Eligible applicants are women who:

  • Provide the primary financial support for her dependents (including children, spouse, siblings and/or parents)
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program
  • Are motivated to achieve their educational and career goals
  • Reside in one of Soroptimist International of the Americas’ member countries or territories
  • Have not previously been the recipient of a Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award; are not a Soroptimist member, employee of Soroptimist or immediate family of either

This award is for all 2014 graduating high school senior female student applicants,  residing within Cumberland County, NJ  in recognition of  their outstanding contributions and accomplishments in their school, community and world.’

Named after the president of the first Soroptimist club, the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award honors girls who are making a difference through volunteer service. Each year, Soroptimist clubs honor girls who donate their time and energy to causes that make the community and world a better place—such as working to end discrimination and poverty,
